AN31 – Valli di Comacchio Loop [Po Delta]

The AN31 Loop circles the Valli di Comacchio, a vast brackish lagoon separated from the Adriatic Sea and one of Italy's most important ecosystems for birdlife: it is home to one of Italy's largest colonies of pink flamingos. From the Argine degli Angeli — the embankment that runs over the water — the landscape is surreal: water on the left, water on the right, and an enormous sky above.

A few kilometres away stands Comacchio, the "little Venice" crossed by canals and famous for the monumental Trepponti bridge. In its valleys the art of fishing and of preparing marinated eel is handed down, told at the Manifattura dei Marinati, the old factory now turned into a museum.

The loop is flat, easy and of great natural beauty: one of the finest in the Po Delta.
