CA 21 – Via delle Isole [Veneto, 3 ferries]
From Lignano Sabbiadoro to Goro
The starting point of this route is Lignano Sabbiadoro, reachable from Friuli-Venezia-Giulia along the Ciclovia Adriatica, or from the train station at Latisana by following the FVG6 cycle-touring route or the GiraTagliamento route along both banks of the river.
From here, the Tagliamento is crossed near Bevazzana (take care — the bridge section is on a main road), then you continue on secondary roads, partly unsurfaced, along the GiraLagune route, part of the wider FVG2 route, known in Veneto as itinerary I3 – Via del Mare. The GiraLagune takes you through the Castello di Brussa, Sindacale and La Salute di Livenza, crossing the Livenza river on a busy main road, as the cycle-pedestrian bridge is still under development.
Arrival at Caorle is on secondary roads that then join the many cycle paths in the town. From Caorle, you continue entirely on cycle paths through Duna Verde and Eraclea Mare until you reach Lido di Jesolo.
From Lido di Jesolo we continue along the coast, crossing Cavallino-Treporti and Ca' Savio, until we reach Punta Sabbioni. For the various ferries, please refer to the Venice public transport website, where you can purchase a daily pass (around €25 + €1.50 per bike on each leg, for a total of about €29.50 to Chioggia), and to Venezia Unica for more information.
At Punta Sabbioni you can board the LN line motorboat which, in about half an hour, takes you to the Lido di Venezia, with bikes also permitted.
Once disembarked at Piazzale Santa Maria Elisabetta, you cycle to the Alberoni area, about ten kilometres away, then continue for another kilometre to the jetty in front of the Faro Rocchetta lighthouse. From here you board the ferry to the island of Pellestrina.
After crossing, you cover about eight kilometres along the only available road, skirting the murazzi — the monumental Istrian stone dike built by the Republic of Venice to protect the lagoon from sea erosion. At the end of the route you reach the jetty from which the motorboat to Chioggia departs, bikes welcome.
From Chioggia, you continue to Sottomarina along a seafront section on cycle paths, then cross the Brenta river on a main road (200 m) and continue on secondary roads to Ca' Lino. From here, you cycle along the Adige to Cavanella d'Adige, where you cross the Adige on a main road (200 m).
From here we enter the Veneto Regional Park of the Po Delta, crossing the Via delle Valli Nord and Via delle Valli Sud, cycle-friendly paths from which you can observe flamingos and many other bird species. We continue through the delta on secondary roads and embankments, pass the Sacca degli Scardovari, an unspoilt area where you can observe the fishermen's casoni, and then reach the end of the route near Goro.
From Goro, the nearest train station is Codigoro, about 20 km away.
Please note: in some sections the route deviates from the Bicitalia BI6 track, following variants considered safer with fewer stretches on main roads.
