CA 50 – Via dei Trabocchi [Abruzzo / Molise]

From Porto d'Ascoli to Chieuti

Termoli – trabocco sul mare

The starting point of this route is Porto d'Ascoli, the last coastal town of Le Marche, which also has a train station. From here, you must cover a short stretch of main road with care, while waiting for the bridge over the Tronto due to be completed by June 2026, then you enter Abruzzo. From here you cycle almost uninterruptedly on coastal cycle paths, passing Giulianova, Roseto degli Abruzzi and Pescara, as far as Francavilla al Mare.

Shortly after Francavilla al Mare, near Tollo Canosa Sannita, you divert inland to avoid long stretches of main road — though about 1 km will still be on it. Then, from Lido Riccio you reach Ortona via secondary roads. From Ortona begins the Via Verde della Costa dei Trabocchi, a stretch of over 40 km entirely on a cycle path literally right beside the sea, reaching San Salvo Marina. Here, a first recommended detour takes you inland through Petacciato, avoiding the main road and reaching Termoli via internal secondary roads.

From Termoli, another inland detour takes you to Campomarino, and you reach the border with Puglia inland on secondary roads in the direction of Chieuti. If you wish to end your journey or travel elsewhere, the nearest train station is at Campomarino, on the coast.

Please note: in some sections the route deviates from the Bicitalia BI6 track, following variants considered safer with fewer stretches on main roads.
